I want to write about loneliness.
But not today.
Today red geraniums on my porch
Lift their droopy heads to the thirsty hummingbird.

I want to write about isolation.
But not today.
Today a black bear wanders aimlessly,
searching and finding a place
to lie down.

I want to write about sadness.
But not today.
Today a killer whale breeches.
Her splash shatters my troubled mind.

I want to write about sadness.
But not today.
Today ravens tap dance on my roof
tripping the light fantastic on
wet shingles.

I find my joy and begin to sing.
Today.
